what's the deal with ... shoefiti?

We've all heard the sinister rumors about shoes flung over utility wires, but do they actually mean anything?

...and if they do portend the existence of nefarious activities nearby (or if they are just an eyesore), what's the best way to get them down?

I can't claim to know their meaning in your neighborhood, but back at the U (Morgantown, WV) the kids hang their shoes on the wires upon graduation. Perhaps it is a similiar celebratory act?

The shoes on wires in my area could mean a number of things..but the activity that I see is high drug traffic..I dont allow them to stay sometimes I take them down or I call the fire department

I always thought of this as being kids or teens doing mischievous things. I'm not sure it has any meaning other than it might've been a challenge to get them up there in the first place. I mean somebody really took the time to get them up there....

I use to think it was a case of kids pranking one another, but on a news report in my hometown on the street considered the worst in the city it was revealed that shoes on a wire indicated that's where drug deals go down.
