we come in peace

That's an especially freakish angle, but it isn't quite as scary in real life. Too bad those great big angled windows are completely filled with HVAC equipment and tubes. And too bad you can totally see that from the street.

Is that the new Salvation Army? It looks like it, and I think the Salvation Army was next to a K, but your Wal-Greens remark has thrown me.

yep, that's the Salvation Army building (Solomon G. Brown Corps Community Center).

There will be retail on the ground floor, which is where my desire for something like a Wallgreens comes in...

That building is pretty shiteous. I prayed it would change further down the road, but seriously, it looks like a transformer.

Yeah, it's kind of gross.

Thanks for the explanation, DG--when I was in Anacostia people I talked to were really excited about it, but I didn't get why they were thrilled because I thought it was just a Salvation Army. Now I know better.

yeah -- contrary to what is often associated with the term "salvation army", this will not be a thrift store! this will be a community center / retail / offices for Salvation Army / gym , etc...

If I am not mistaken, the famed Douglas Jemal of Douglas Development owns this site (on top of another half of the city). Unlike him, this is completely out of character but nothing but a profitable move. Anacostia was the only subdivision in the first quarter of the year to have an increase in property value. Its coming..........

Actually, The Salvation Army owns this site.

As far as I know, Jemal's Anacostia holdings are limited to parts of the corner of MLK and Good Hope.
