Pedestrian Bridge, Please

DC Council Chair Vincent Gray is quoted in a WTOP article about Nationals Stadium parking:

"Poplar Point really is very close to the site of the new baseball stadium, " says Gray.

With 20 to 25 dates reserved for soccer, Gray says baseball fans would have access to the soccer stadium lots.

"You could park over at Poplar Point, come across a pedestrian bridge, or otherwise be transported the short distance to the baseball stadium," says Gray.
Please build a pedestrian bridge over the Anacostia River! ..and bring DC up to par with:

...and many more.

This would be amazing!

At least three "new" pedestrian bridges have been proposed for crossing the Anacostia. I believe that includes the new South Capitol Street bridge project. Is there any reason to believe they have been scratched?

The only pedestrian bridge under consideration/consruction that I know of is near the Anacostia, but does not cross it. I believe it is in the Riverside/view neighborhood further northeast, and all it will do is cross 295.

Would love to hear about the others, if you have info!

Hopefully I find a little time to do some digging and find some documents to back me up on the multiple crossings, but am I wrong in thinking what you want (though maybe not a separate free-standing bridge) is part of the new South Capitol Street Bridge project? I've seen proposals for Anacostia River pedestrian crossings at multiple points including various ideas leading to Poplar Point. I think some are included in the AWI Framework Plan.

I hate to break it to you, but the bridge you have denoted 'London' is in fact the Gateshead Millenium Bridge in Newcastle. There is also a Millenium Bridge in London.

Anyway, let's hope they make the bridge in Anacostia.

I'd also like to see a pedestrian bridge across the Anacostia. There should definitely be one over the Washington Channel, making Hains Point more accessible as well.

There's also the James Joyce Bridge in Dublin.

Is there any river/barge traffic on that stretch that would prevent a low-pedestrian bridge from being built?

thanks Andrew - I've made the fix.
monkeyrotica, there has got to be a solution to that. It looks like the Newcastle bridge has the ability to fold up into a higher "bow" shape, something that could (can DC design really be that innovative?) be done over the Anacostia.
