I'm kind of scared to announce this because I can hardly believe it is finally here. But... Big Chair Coffee is opening this Monday, January 11. Preliminary hours are 7AM to 7PM (but I think they might go later if the demand is there).
It's also going to have food: sandwiches, mini burgers, etc. Come on out and support!!

I'm soooooooo excited!!! Since I just quit my job, I have a feeling this will be one of my new mobile offices!!!
Can you confirm if there will be a soft opening on Saturday, and what time? Thanks, Kellie
I walked by just last night and saw that the paper had been taken down. My heart jumped! Finally some non-"kept warm all day long" coffee down there. Intensely exciting!
Finally, a coffee shop in the neighborhood. I'll be there for the opening.
It's not just a coffee shop its an indication on where our community is going...UP! Also hopefully it will turn into one of those places where you can go and talk to your neighbor or friends. It has a great potential to be a social center, much more than the IHOP in Congress Heights. Very exciting! If this is a success more businesses will realize what we have known all along - that River East can and will support quality businesses.
I stand corrected. I do hope that it stays open longer. Will be hard to make use of it during the week with those hours but excited nonetheless.
This is so aweseome! Can we officially set a day when we all can at least meet and get our friends to patron. Anybody play the guitar, read poetry, juggle-whatever?
I can't wait!
I'll be there on Monday after work. Hope they extend the hours till atleats 8:30pm
I'll be there after work on Monday too!
I am there in the AM around 7:30ish...
Just as a strong and slightly imposing police presence was needed to make the Goodhope Marketplace a success ..and to keep it that way, a similar strategy will be required to make Big Chair Coffee a possibility in River East. Sounds draconian and a little politically incorrect, but, without the 'chair and a whip' routine, this shop's going to look like the Day of the Rangers inside of a week.
The kind of cosmoplitan atmosphere we're hoping for just isn't going to happen without police being rammed so far up Anacostia's youknowhut, we'll be coughing up badges and parking tickets--and for more than a little while.
Anacostia will try you,..just you wait and see.
I purchased a Mocha this morning. It was great! The ambiance inside the place was very nice for a cozy coffee house.
I can't think of any other type of business that would be a better fit for this place.
Being located near the Bank of America helps with the police presence. Thumbs up for the first day.
Anacostiaque, I believe that you were there the same time me and my friend were. I purchased a mocha as well.
I enjoyed a tasty latte this morning, it was fantastic! :0)
Everyone was so friendly. Matt introduced himself and informed us the pastry selection would be different tomorrow.
On my next visit, I'll be sure to try the breakfast.
I have zero complaints, what a great way to start my day!
As a heads up, this place is definately on the radar of 7D's finest. While chowing down on my veggie burger tonight, two..no count them three on duty patrol officers came through for a bite to eat. The pulled up next to my friend and I and had their dinner at the bar. Tables were full, this place was jumpin. I can only hope they extend their hours to a little later in the evenings, so I can sit back and relax. So far so good---
Mr. Dale Banks,
Yep, probably was me in there. I''ve been back two extra times. I tried the pastry on Thursday. It was great.
So far, so good for Big Chair Coffee! I think they're off to a great start. Probably, more businesses will follow...
