I'm going to keep this short because I wasn't completely blown away. I think that two candidates came out on top: Yavocka Young, current president of Main Street Anacostia, and Charles Wilson, head of the Historic Anacostia Block Association. They seem to have the best handle on economic development in Ward 8, as well as the most realistic and appropriate ways of bringing our neighborhoods up to speed with the rest of the city.
In an 8-candidate race it is important that we separate the wheat from the chaff or there will be no chance of beating the incumbent.
Oh yeah, and Marion Barry was not there, and "SS" Seagars showed up way late.

How was the public turnout? I couldn't go b/c of work, but am curious how much of Ward 8 represented.
public turnout was pretty good -- almost every seat was filled in the main UPO space. I'd estimate around 40-50 people total.
Marion is the only one with the juice to get enough city money to make Ward 8 development happen.
Anonymous I really hope that was a joke. If Marion Barry spent as much time and effort doing his job as he has bilking metro out of $4k for an accident that never happened we would be in tip top shape.
I loved it when halfway through the event the moderator anounced that Marion Barry couldn't attend because he had to attend to "important legislative business" - the resulting laughter from the audience was priceless.
Young and Wilson were definetly the stand outs. I could actaully see either one of them taking the job. They were articulate, honest and had the best grasp of the issues.
Going to write up an extensive little recap of the event.
I think it is fair to point out that Marion Barry had to work and SS was late because her neighbor was robbed. I think its also important to let people decide for themselves by doing their own investigations on the candidates.
Barry didn't come? Color me surprised....
The sooner we retire Night Owl from public service, the better the public will be.
Why didn't Barry just let the ANC know before hand that he had a conflict. Then the ANC could have rescheduled the forum. I think it was more strategy than anything....now he was able to see where the competition was coming from...smart man.
