Overheard...

...at a rooftop party in Capitol Hill this weekend. Anacostia was the (attempted) topic of conversation, until this gem from a Georgetown grad student:
"Oh, I didn't know there was another river in DC."
Pretty sad, but not surprising. I wonder what percentage of the regional population would have had the same response.

I am just waiting for the day when I don't get crazy looks when I say I am moving to SE. I hate it! LOL.

haha, this overheard comment is so true. I rented on capitol hill near 11th and Independence, SE until June 2006 when I bought a condo near Penn Ave and 27th, SE. Everytime I live east of the river in Anacostia people give me a blank stare. Generally the only thing people know is that they cross some water to get to 295, but they have no idea it's the Anacostia river.

Being raised in Anacostia, and going to GU for undergrad AND grad, I had a lot of educating to do. You kinda give up after a while... and kinda ironic in a sense...
