New House on W Street

Another new house is sprouting up on the 1500 block of W Street, just a half block up from the Frederick Douglass estate. This house also went through the Historic Anacostia Design Review Committee, so it'll be interesting to see how the exterior finishes turn out.

We (back when I was still living in the neighborhood and co-chair of the committee) suggested that the builder - who also built the new white houses on 14th Street last summer - add more windows the the back of the house, but that didn't happen.

Also, the house extends to the property line on both sides, which is why there are no windows there.

It's a unique block, because only one side of the street (the side the house is on) is within the historic district. Just across the street are some pretty bombed out looking apartments and a vinyl behemoth at one end. And hey, it's just about three blocks up from Uniontown Bar & Grill!

I like the width, but not so much the one window upstairs on the front. I agree that more windows would've been nice for extra natural lighting. It looks like windows are lacking on the first floor - rear - as well. My thoughts...

Yeah, they do great work. I'm buying one of their homes. @AnacostiaQUE - you have to see the inside first. It probably gets more light than you would think. The last one they did on 14th Street is gorgeous!

I'm glad they're simply renovating. These houses really offer great character.

sorry i know this has nothing to do with the subject but I didn't know where to post this question: what's going to happen with the Barry Farms goodman league after the projects are demolished?

It's known as arguably the best streetball in the country and many people come not just for the games but also for the hood atmosphere! I heard it might shift to stanton rd, or is it safe to assume that the league will be moved to some new sterile location?

I'm all for change but it will sadden me to come back in a few years to check out the games and instead find condos and wine bars.

@5thand0202, good question. Those games are a pretty great experience. I'm not sure what the league's plans are. I believe the plans for the site include basketball courts - so it's possible they will just stay there.
