one of my biggest praises for the Fenty administration is that thing are actually getting done. Sure, some of the big plans don't pan out as expected and he sometimes jetsets around without telling the press, but there is a new kind of efficiency and modern work ethic in the city that's pretty great.
outpost of sketchy used car "sales" no longer
case in point: the slew of grimy / sketchy "used car lots" that weren't even legit businesses that lined many of the city's up-and-coming retail corridors. the administration heard the complaints that they weren't actually selling cars to the public, and in swoops the Fenty crackdown to get rid of them. Love it.
they even took the signs
this month the car lot crackdown finally made its way to the corner of MLK Ave and U Street:
and now, another developable lot...
I still need to check out some of the lots on Good Hope - anyone notice if the same is true there? Remember, if you see something sketchy or want something fixed, just call 311 (Mayor's citywide call center) or plug a request into the Service Request Center.

I agree re: Fenty. Lots of people in this city just like to bitch, and will basically be unhappy no matter what the gov does. It's ingrained in people now. I love that the current DC gov, including the council, is actually making things happen and making BIG plans, even if they won't come to fruition for another decade (see waterfront plans, etc). The government absolutely needs to create a sense of urgency and customer service that it's lacked... well, forever. While many despise him for the very reason I praise him (ie that he's brash and wants things done ASAP and is willing to fire people if things don't get done), it is very refreshing. The status quo of bureaucratic laziness and incompetence wasn't working. Now, schools are being built, parking are being rehabbed, soon teachers will make more, and we're finally taking economic development seriously. Can this be anything but a good thing for the city? I know many people don't like change, but cmon...
Can I tell you that I LOVE Fenty? I think this is a HUGE step in the right direction and I only hope that he expands it to include liquor stores. In fact we need to get right on that. So many of these liquor stores are a blight and are not following the law.
In terms of fenty being willing to fire people if things dont get done I am all on board with that. I think part of the past problem with the DC goverment is that folks got a little too comfortable that regardless of their productivity their job will always be there. I like that city employees are being held accountable. Now if we can only do the same with some of these public officials!!!
This is good news. Most of the lots on Bladensburg have been shut down as well. Good riddance. Send them out to PG county.
Yes, send them out to PG county. We dont have enough space for that foolishness. Liquor stores should be next on the list. Clean up your act or SHIP OUT! Business owners should no longer be allowed to bring SHAME to our beautiful city!
Choosing a car is bit difficult , since in the market wide range of cars are available. You need to consult an expert who can compare different branded cars. I prefer Eu Neuwagen to consult and get the right brand.
When this lot was used for used cars for sale, plenty of cars that would've been accessible for people who wished to have their very own mode of transportation now need to search somewhere else.
